Vehicle Excise Duty
The amount of Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax) payable on new cars varies depending on the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced by the vehicle. CO2 emissions are measured in grams (g) per kilometer (km) travelled and divided into charging bands for each of the fuel types shown in the table below (VED table).
